Verdict

This race went to a decent sort last year in Grade 2 placed and County Hurdle fifth Noble Prince (trained by Paul Nolan) and attracted a strong field this year despite the absence of Carlito Brigante and Bruach Na Mara. The field of four was taken along at a steady gallop by Imperial Shabra who led by a couple of lengths from Son Amix racing on the outside of SHINROCK PADDY and Rigour Back Bob who was just behind that pair but given plenty of daylight. Rigour Back Bob had been a little untidy at one or two flights but the race proceeded without incident until Imperial Shabra quickened the pace with about three quarters of a mile to run. Son Amix, fourth in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham and then again at Punchestown, had every move covered and moved alongside as they jumped the ninth and moved into the home turn; Shinrock Paddy stuck to the rail and stalked them but Andrew McNamara was getting lower in the saddle on Rigour Back Bob who was beginning to struggle. There were three in a line as they jumped the second last with Shinrock Paddy and Alan Cawley having got a great run up the inside and his stamina began to kick in as he took a clear advantage over the last before tiring a little close home to allow Son Amix to close up to a length and a quarter at the line. Shinrock Paddy had stayed on well to win over two miles on his seasonal reappearance 12 months ago before landing a Grade 1 over two and a half miles. He flopped on his first run over three miles in the Albert Bartlett but that wasn't his running and he rates a nice prospect for the season (with fences still an option) for staying contests with connections expecting him to improve for this run. Son Amix ran respectably in receipt of all the weight for age allowances but could be difficult to place over hurdles whilst Rigour Back Bob has something to prove following this lacklustre return.
