Verdict

A wonderful training performance as WORKFORCE bounces back from his King George flop to run out a game winner. Ryan Moore had the Investec Derby winner nicely settled in the early stages and he showed a good turn of foot - and commendable courage - to squeeze through a narrow gap two furlongs out. Moore had to be at his strongest to fend off the persistent runner-up but he had a willing partner. It remains unclear where Workforce heads next but it would be wonderful to see him stay in training. He's only had five races after all and is capable of even better. Nakayama Festa was clearly all the wiser for his European debut and ran a tremendous race in second. He'll be a major player in all the major mile-and-a-half international races. Sarafina came home strongly in third, seemingly dispelling fears over the trip for her, that said she was ridden to get it. She should strike again at the top level unless connections decide the paddocks call. Behkabad emerged as the best French three-year-old colt but he was just found wanting for acceleration by the principals. The same comment applies to Fame And Glory who was in a good position turning in and while he took a hefty bump, he was never able to summon the speed to challenge. Marinous ran a cracker, especially given his poor draw, while Victoire Pisa again underlined the strength of the Japanese bloodstock right now in seventh. Cavalryman was tried in blinkers but remains a light of former days. Cape Blanco was beaten when meeting with interference and the ground was all wrong for him. Stablemate Midas Touch and Youmzain finished in the rear after both weakened rapidly. They are better than this but whether we see the latter again remains to be seen.
