The last ever Champions Stakes to be run at HQ and TWICE OVER ensured his name will go down in the history books with a commanding win following on from his victory in the race 12 months ago. Debussy took them along at a sedate pace next to the stands' rail and Tom Queally, presumably buzzing from his win on Frankel in the previous race, was always in position A aboard the winner. He was happy for John Gosden's horse to make the running, but was never far away and eased his way to the front three furlongs out. Debussy couldn't go with him and with the rest of the field under the pump he raced away for an authoratative success. He loves this track, was a worthy winner and is very reliable at this level without being flashy. The lack of pace did for Vision d'Etat who couldn't quicken when required. Considering that, this was a decent effort and he can win again against the very best when he gets a true gallop. Debussy benefitted from dictating the fractions and perhaps he was flattered to hold on for third. Gitano Hernando finished off his race well after being outpaced when they quickened the tempo going into The Dip and he was also one to suffer for the lack of pace, as was Poet's Voice who just didn't settle. It's too early to say he didn't stay the 10 furlongs.
