They went a punishing gallop in this and staying well was the name of the game with COPPER BLEU doing it better than the rest under a cool ride from Richard Johnson. He crept into the race as Gansey and Fiendish Flame took each other on up front with Rivaliste always in the van under Ruby Walsh. The Paul Nicholls-trained favourite made too many mistakes and that ruined his chance but there was nothing but fluency from the winner who jumped with excellence. He took up the running with a super leap at the second last and stayed on well up the hill. Othermix defied his starting price of 50-1 with a fine effort in first-time blinkers and this was by far his best performance for Tom George. If the headgear works again he should win a nice race while The Midnight Club stayed on well for third and he needs at least three miles or softer ground to show his best. China Rock played up a bit beforehand but ran a good race in fourth and was only beaten four lengths despite being more prominent throughout than the three ahead of him.
