Sir Michael Stoute trained Imperial Guest to win this race for Mr Saeed Suhail in 2005 and he repeated the trick here with PERFECT STRIDE who broke the track record on the fast ground. Ryan Moore tracked the front-running Moonquake ridden by Frankie Dettori throughout before unleashing his challenge in the straight. It looked for a moment or too that the Godolphin horse would hold on for a game win from the front but he had no more to give in the last 50 yards as Perfect Stride edged clear. This was the four-year-old's first attempt at 10 furlongs after being campaigned at a mile for most of his career, but he needed every yard of the trip and this looks his distance. He could progress into a useful middle distance performer. Moonquake ran a cracker in defeat and will go up a further few pounds in the handicap now while Salute Him came from off the pace for third under Richard Hughes. Well-backed favourite Stone Of Scone was prominent throughout but was soon niggled entering the straight and was eased down in the closing stages.
