Aidan O'Brien strengthened his grip on the Epsom Derby as his horses finiahsed first and second. Johnny Murtagh picked wrong again and he must have felt a little miffed to see his stablemate edge by having looked to have grabbed the race on board Freemantle. BLACK BEAR ISLAND stayed on very strongly and should have little trouble stepping up to the Derby trip - O'Brien has a multitude of riches again and it easy to see why he is odds-on for another Derby win. Crowded Hose was all the rage but ran moderately to be honest. He did not have the greatest passage up the inner but never looked like landing blow once the semblence of a gap opened up. He will still go to Epsom but has something to prove. Sans Frontieres stayed on nicely down the outer and a few more strides would have perhaps nicked second. His run will have delighted connections. Kite Wood was solid enough for Godolphin but he hardly screams Derby winner. He will take his chance in the big one as well.
