Shades of Giant's Causeway's win in the race for Ballydoyle as MASTERCRAFTSMAN battle backed to get his head in front of Delegator in the final strides for a thrilling successs. The winner was always prominent in the pack under Johnny Murtagh and he went for home early in the straight but both the runner-up and Lord Shanakill tracked him ready to pounce. The latter was perhaps moving best but had to give best inside the distance as the front two settled down to battle it out. Jimmy Fortune certainly got to the front at one stage but had no answer as the the winner of the Irish Guineas dug deep into his reserves to nose ahead where it mattered. Delegator's trainer Brian Meehan admitted he would be keen to take on the winner again and he has a very smart horse in his care. Mastercraftsman has form on a range of surfaces now and is yet another from his stable who simply relishes a scrap. He could go on a considerbale winning run this season. Lord Shanakill is a credit to trainer Karl Burke and he deserves a decent race - it may come at a slightly lower level, where he would be something to bet on. Evasive finished best of the rest having made up ground from the rear but was never in a position to make a winning bid under Ryan Moore.
