Verdict

A really competitive finale and seven jumped the last with chances but it was former Hennessy third CHARACTER BUILDING who showed his class under a patient and confident ride from Jamie Codd. John Quinn's grey jumped well and travelled well and Codd was pulling double as they approached the second last. Codd waited still at the last fence and still didn't go for his whip with 100 yards to go before eventually driving him out for a comfortable win. Class told here and he could go for the Grand National next. Venetia Williams' Pretty Star ran with credit but didn't look like getting past the winner on the run-in while Newbay Prop stayed on to snatch third on the line.
