Verdict

Dandy Nicholls is one of the shrewdest trainers around and he is not accustomed to sending juveniles on a 500-mile round trip to Glorious Goodwood so the hint should have been taken with GOWER VALENTINE. He had been beaten on his three previous starts but pinged the stalls, went two lengths clear and never looked like being pegged back. What this says about the form is open to question but Nicholls could have tried a nursery for her on the back of three runs so probably rates her above average. Barry Hills' unraced Intense was sympathetically ridden for second place and will surely win her maiden while Sterling Sound who faded into third can pick up a nursery and debutant Seradim plugged on into fourth under Frankie Dettori and will be better over seven furlongs next time.
