Verdict

The pace was only steady in the early stages and the field were well grouped. Swindler and Soul City were to the fore, and they were in the best position as the pace quickened with two furlongs to go. It was Soul City, strongly driven, who kept on well to score grimly with Swindler staying on but not quite well enough, in second. The remainder were headed by Whispering Angel, but the closing pack did not have enough time to make their presence felt as the race had developed into a sprint. Holyrood made notable late progress and looks one to keep an eye on.
