A 20th Royal Ascot winner for the Queen was greeted with enthusiasm by Her Majesty in the stands as FREE AGENT posted an impressive victory under Richard Hughes. Last approaching the two-furlong marker Hughes began his challenge at that point and Free Agent responded well to stamp his authority well inside the final 200 yards. He won going away and as is the intention of this race should prove to be a decent middle distance horse as a three-year-old. Runners must be sired by a horse that won over 1m2f or over and being by Dr Fong out of an Unfuwain mare, Free Agent could well be aimed at the Derby next year. Stan James went 33/1 for the Epsom Classic in the immediate aftermath of the race and that looks a fair enough price. Seaway was second for the third time but he looks a genuine sort, racing more prominently than Free Agent but failing to quicken like the winner at the business end. He is a nice sort also by Dr Fong and will improve for a step up in trip. Markyg improved for the step up to seven furlongs and ran with credit.
