This promised to be fairly straightforward according to the betting and in the end it was proved so as Henrythenavigator won by just under a length from Raven's Pass, and that pair were a couple of lengths clear of Twice Over in third. The presence of Minneapolis ensured a strong early pace and indeed other front-runners such as Cat Junior and Falco could not go with him early. He soon capitulated three furlongs out as Falco hit the front but he in turn was soon swamped by Henrythenavigator, Raven's Pass and Twice Over. The former showed that devastating turn of foot of his despite his jockey seemingly getting in a bit of a muddle as the horse hung to his right. He soon shot clear though and put distance between him and Raven's Pass who stayed on well to prove that he does get the mile trip. The first two were held up in the early stages, with Twice Over just ahead of them and the fact that those three filled the places, whilst no surprise according to the betting, showed that the race was run in their favour. Falco capitulated at the furlong marker and had no more to give, however Cat Junior really caught the eye staying on again to nearly grab third; this was a fine display from a horse that won't be long in winning. The time of 1.38.7 seconds, a new course record, indicated that the ground was riding quick and that the form of this truly-run race should stand the test of time.
