Verdict

Bated Breath went down with all guns blazing behind Little Bridge in the King's Stand Stakes at Ascot having earlier edged out Sole Power on his reappearance in the Temple Stakes at Haydock when Spirit Quartz, Confessional, Tangerine Trees, Masamah and Monsieur Joe were behind. He could only finish ninth in this last year, however, when the likes of Hamish McGonagall, Kingsgate Native and Masamah were ahead, and he'll be short enough in the betting. Australian mare Ortensia has to come into the reckoning having beaten Spirit Quartz fairly comfortably in the King George Stakes at Goodwood. A whole bunch of these, including Masamah, Confessional, Angels Will Fall and Humidor, were on the heels of the principals but most are worse off at the weights today. Tiddliwinks would go close on his best form but David Barron has had this race earmarked for PEARL SECRET since he completed a four-timer in a Listed contest at Sandown in June. This is unquestionably his toughest task to date but we possibly still haven't seen the best of the three-year-old yet and he has a terrific turn of foot. He can prove himself at the highest level today.
