Verdict

An interesting median auction maiden contest where IRON VELVET can make it third time lucky, with debutants Vale Of York and Hot Prospect very interesting opponents. The selection represents Mark Johnston, whose juveniles tend to take a run or two to reach fever pitch, and we are hoping that this is the case with Iron Velvet. The Dubawi colt improved from his first run to finish runner-up at long odds over 6f here earlier in the month, but this step-up in trip looks ideal. There is every chance that he will relish the cut in the ground and he can put his experience to full use and break his duck. Vale Of York increased in price from foal to two-year-old, which along with the form of the Godolphin runners is taken as a positive, and he has enough winning relatives to suggest that he could have a huge say in the outcome of this. Neither Our Joe Mac nor Mark Anthony would have the pedigree to suggest that they can win tonight, but they are likely to be nice sorts who will pick up a win before long. A more interesting first-timer looks to be Hot Prospect, whose dam won over this trip as a juvenile and whose sire, Motivator, relished cut in the ground and won on debut. He looks likely to be too good for most of those with previous experience, but we will take one of them, Iron Velvet, to come home in front.
