Verdict

A good but not great renewal of this showpiece event and Authorized can see off Notnowcato and Dylan Thomas. The Derby winner does have a couple of questions to answer after being defeated by Notnowcato in the Eclipse but it would have been interesting to see if the result would have been the same had Dettori elected to follow Ryan Moore on the winner, rather than do battle with George Washington. Rain shouldn't effect him and having landed the Dante on this track, there are more positives than negatives. Notnowcato should on bare form be capable of holding our selection, especially at these favourable weights. Today is the acid test as to whether he got lucky or not on the day. Dylan Thomas took what was considered to be a below par renewal of the King George in fine style. He could only beat what was put against him although today's task of conceeding weight will be much more demanding. Hattan represents an in-form yard and he will run his race although he has it to do on the formbook. Asiatic Boy steps up in trip and is watched in the market as a consequence. Duke Of Marmalade has always been said by Aidan O'Brien to need a bit of time and the miler is worth a try over this trip given that he has finished well in his races. Song Of Hiawatha was an expensive purchase at the sales and the handicapper appears booked for pacemaking duties. Authorized can be forgiven a reversal at Sandown and is selected to make amends.
