Verdict

Overturn continues to thrive and will be a hard nut to crack however ELYAADI can provide young jockey Gary Carroll with back-to-back wins in this historic race. John Queally's mare came from an impossible position when second to Junior at Royal Ascot. She is only 2lbs higher today and this adaptable mare can strike late for a famous win. Overturn has been a revelation but the other jockeys should be wiser to his tactics today and favourites have a poor record in this race. Dangerous Midge side-stepped the Geoffrey Freer at the weekend but wouldn't want rain, Darley Sun looks fairly-treated now dropped in grade and the former David Simcock inmate loves a test of stamina, as do The Betchworth Kid (love any rain) and Dirar (fine third to Overturn in the Galway Hurdle last month). Ante-post favourite Martyr sauntered home at Goodwood and has relished stepping up in trip; a 4lb penalty leaves him looking tremendously well-handicapped but this is a stronger field. Fortuni, Bernie The Bolt and (second reserve) Stanstill look the best of the rest if taking part.
