    Verdict

Adagio was ultimately disappointing in the 2,000 Guineas so Sir Michael Stoute's colt may be best watched today and preference is for the reappearing Authorized, with Proponent rated the most interesting of the remainder. The selection stepped up on his debut effort when running out the good winner of the Racing Post Trophy on only his second start and Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt again has ground conditions to suit for his return. Provided that he has trained on from two to three, the son of Montjeu looks the one that they all have to beat. John Gosden's Raincoat was a good winner of Epsom's Blue Riband Trial but this represents a big step up in class for the son of Barathea, while Prince Golan is more exposed than most and would need to have improved significantly. Al Shemali looks the clear second string of Sir Michael Stoute's two runners and of more interest may be Roger Charlton's Proponent, who has done everything asked of him so far and may have further improvement to come. Authorized sets a decent standard though and he looks the one to be on.
