Verdict

Paul Cole has sent some decent debutants up to York before and so a chance is taken on BANANA REPUBLIC ahead of Emirates Dream, Hoss Cartwright and Marie De Medici. Paul Cole's son of Danehill Dancer is likely to be effective over a longer trip in time being out of a mile and a half winning mare, however he is related to several winners, including over this seven furlong trip. A 60,000 Euros purchase, he represents a trainer who has a 42% strike-rate with his two-year-old's at the track in the last five seasons and that alone makes him of interest. Of those to have raced, the most interesting are We'll Deal Again and Marie De Medici. The former represents local trainer Mick Easterby and he was a real eyecatcher on his debut at Ripon (66/1) when he stayed on well to lead his group home. Marie De Medici was well-fancied on her debut at Haydock but bumped into a good one in Jeanie Johnston. That filly has since gone on to be placed in Listed company so the form reads well, but she looks to up against some good colts here, although it should be noted that she is the sole runner for her yard from an original four-strong entry. Howard Johnson has a history of producing good juveniles and of his duo, the booking of Paul Mulrennan for the already gelded Hoss Cartwright would point to him being the pick of the pair. Kavak made a pleasing debut at Newmarket and from limited information to date, it appears that the progeny of Dubawi improve markedly with their racing. The Caped Crusader is very well-related but needs to improve on his two starts to date, whilst the market should help tell a story about some of the newcomers including Laureldean Spirit and Bun Oir. Godolphin have saddled two juvenile winners from four runners at the track in recent seasons and therefore Emirates Dream, an $850,000 son of Kingmambo, must be considered a major player, however it is Banana Republic who can throw in a curve ball.
