In depth

Verdict

Cap St Jean can benefit from first-time cheekpieces to beat Ella Y Rossa, Ochre, and King Zeal. Jamie Spencer gets the leg up again on Cap St Jean after the gelding's narrow defeat over track-and-trip 16-days ago. Sent off favourite then, Reg Hollinshead's charge was delivered late, but could not quite get there. Equally, if not more unlucky at Beverley the time before when encountering trouble in running, he is a winner waiting to happen, and hopefully will be lit up by the cheekpieces. Ella Y Rossa has struggled since creeping up the weights, but does act on the surface, while Ochre has been off since May and may have a bit of potential despite having various aids applied at an early stage of her career. King Zeal has had just three runs and is already asked to help top the handicap which is a bit harsh, and we much prefer the claims of Cap St Jean.
