In depth

Verdict

Another small field and this one can be dominated by THUNDERING HOME, whose win last time suggested that there was more to come, while House Red can chase him home. The latter is a relatively rare winter runner for trainer Barry Hills, and won a Leicester handicap on fast ground in October. Raised 7lbs for that and stepped up to this trip here last time he found little when it mattered and therefore still has to prove that he will get home. Thundering Home has been progressing nicely and was a winner at the third time of asking when doing so, eased down, at Southwell last time. A mark of 70 for his first handicap looks fair enough and he looks capable of winning this and progressing a fair bit more. Jazz Age should show more now dropped 5lbs and market confidence would make him more interesting, but Capricornus looks a better proposition now stepped up in trip and should, at the very least, get competitive. However, Thundering Home looks a progressive sort and is taken to win again.
