    Verdict

Vintage is selected here ahead of Duke Of Milan and Jilly Why. Much as it was a Classified Stakes race that Vintage won over course and distance last time, it was a big step forward and, possessing a little more scope than most of his rivals, he might be able to win again under a penalty. Bond Playboy got back to winning ways in an apprentice race last time and, racing off the same mark today, cannot be ruled out although he lacks consistency. Jilly Why, who has yet to win a race on the all-weather, meets him on the same terms from that race when she was beaten half a length but is better drawn than her rival today. Finally, Blue Bird's Gem seemed to show improvement last time but the form of his run is a little hard to quantify, and, Duke Of Milan (now rated 49) is well weighted based on his Lingfield all-weather win in an apprentice race when rated 68 last September and, if first-time blinkers do the trick, well, you never know. For the selection, though, we return to Vintage.
