In depth

Verdict

Wasalat showed improved form when landing a course and distance handicap a fortnight ago and David Barker's mare is taken to defy a lenient 2lb rise for that success, getting the vote ahead of Pelham Crescent and Steig. The last mentioned has been showing improved form of late and Carl Llewellyn's gelding should be thereabouts again. Hatch A Plan was slightly disappointing at Kempton last time but has solid claims on earlier form here at Wolverhampton, while Irish raider Schelm should improve for his debut effort on the surface last month. Airman has failed to take to hurdles of late and is hard to recommend back on the level off his current mark so a bigger threat is likely to come from Pelham Crescent, who ran up to his best over course and distance last time and can race off the same mark again today. Wasalat looks to be going the right way though and she is preferred.
