Verdict

Brinscall has the solid form in the book but is beginning to look exposed and so is taken on with WELLMARKED who can take this from Court Drinking. Our selection has been off the track since making a highly promising debut in August behind a decent sort but provided he's fit to run today can put that initial experience to good use by scoring here. That taking effort was over this course and distance and with improvement likely John Quinn's gelding can add go one better at the main expense of newcomer Court Drinking. John Best is well worth respecting with his two-year-olds and this American bred colt should be at home on the surface, with the trip also looking a solid starting point for this son of Alke. Market signals should be heeded but without that benefit Robert Winston's mount is narrowly passed over today. Brinscall carries an official rating of 72 and that sets a reasonable enough standard here, although the filly has gone seven starts without winning and may just have to give best to more unexposed rivals today despite having landed a plot draw in stall one. The others with experience look modest on their offerings so far and so it may pay to keep an eye on the market with regard to newcomers Katy's Secret and, in particular, Burning Thread. The last-named is bred to make a two-year-old at sprint trips being by Captain Rio and could well take a hand in the finish. As ever with maidens the market is going to help solve this puzzle but without that benefit we'll take Wellmarked to score.
