In depth

Verdict

ARTE VIVA is taken to land this fillies' maiden, while Alice Alleyne, Angelena Ballerina, Pictures and Whirly Dancer all have claims. The selection performed with plenty of credit on debut when runner-up in a moderate Kempton contest over this trip, but should have learned plenty there. Keiren Fallon, who rode her that day, takes the mount on Pictures here instead, but Neil Callan is a very capable deputy and with improvement highly likely we'll side with that pair. Pictures has made the frame twice in the past month or so and handled conditions here well last time, so she has to be respected. Angelena Ballerina is a maiden after six starts and tries the Polytrack for the first time. She was not disgraced in Listed company in the summer but does lack some toe at the business end. Henry Cecil saddles two here, Whirly Dancer and Athenian Garden. The latter is related to American dirt winners at around a mile and should probably be better for the run, while Whirly Dancer's form this far suggests that she has a bit to find with the leading players. Alice Alleyne steps up in trip for a second time after being a beaten favourite at Yarmouth and she should still be effective over this far, so she should not be far away if able to cope with the worst of the draw. Arte Viva is given the nod.
