Verdict

A hot little contest this, but a disappointing field of just four compete in the richest race on the card, and MONSIEUR CHEVALIER gets the vote, narrowly ahead of Archers Road, although any support for Kirsty's Boy or Ailsa Carmel could prove to be significant. Richard Hannon's colt has won both his races to date, very impressively, and has a couple of fancy entries for later in the year, including the Newbury Super Sprint. Following his comfortable victory last time out at Newmarket, the trainer was fulsome in his praise, tipping him to go to Royal Ascot, as long as the ground's not too quick. The rain forecast here can only help. Archers Road and Kirstys Boy are also entered in the Super Sprint; Archers Road has been first or second in his five races to date, and couldn't counter a poor draw last time out at Chester in the Lily Agnes. Kirstys Boy improved from a Polytrack run at Kempton to scoot up at Goodwood a fortnight ago. Ailsa Carmel changed hands last month and was third on debut at Newbury on Friday. She may though need another race or two before landing the spoils at this sort of level. All of them are on an upwards curve in ability, but the one we like is Monsieur Chevalier.
