      Verdict

TWELVE STRINGS has a win to his name on soft ground which increases his chances considerably. That win came in a driving finish at Pontefract and he didn't do too badly in a competitive Newmarket handicap last time considering he ran into a deal of trouble. The fascinating contender in the line-up is Marine Girl, who came from a seemingly hopeless position to land a Nottingham maiden with a remarkable burst of speed. Whether she can reproduce that turn of foot under totally different conditions is impossible to predict but she's an interesting player. Cresta Star should go well if handling the ground and Talk Of The North is respected if showing up after her late thrust took her to victory at Wolverhampton on Thursday. It's probably too early to be giving up on the Stoute handicap debutant, Plastiki, who is at the right end of the weights.
