Verdict

Modest fayre on offer and Naxox is taken to be too good for I'm A Legend, Mossman Gorge and Smokey The Bear. The last named won a handicap on the All Weather 10 days ago, so comes here on a high. He has very little to lose in taking his chance in this company and a big run is expected from Sheena West's charge. Mossman Gorge shapes as if he can pay his way under this code and, odds permitting, is worth bearing in mind for a place in the frame. He won't mind the ground and, with his rider taking 5lb off his back, the five-year-old can play strong hand as events unfold. I'm A Legend looked like landing a gamble until the saddle slipped on his penultimate start and can considered unlucky to be still without a win to his name. He is going the right way and appears to be the biggest threat to the selection. However, Naxox is following a tried and trusted path set out by Venetia Williams and the French import is a strong fancy at this level. The gelding had no problem in getting off the mark at Uttoxeter last time out it would be no surprise to see him put together a nice little sequence if the openings can be found for him.
