Verdict

COUNTRYWIDE FLAME is worth following until beaten. John Quinn's gelding has defied a big weight in a handicap on the Flat at Redcar since winning very easily at Cartmel and is at the top of his game at present. Secret Edge travelled strongly for a long way on his hurdles bow at Chepstow and has already won over 2m on the level. He'll strip fitter here and, with his maiden's allowance, looks a bigger danger to the selection than Chadford, who was allowed to start at generous odds when successful over C&D earlier this month in a race in which the market leaders failed to run up to form. Alfraamsey is already exposed and may find this company too hot, while this is a better race than the one Kie won at Kelso and Irish raider The Ice Factor also needs to improve again if he's to complete his hat-trick.
