In depth

Verdict

Three miles in soft ground will take plenty of getting and it's likely that not many of them will get home today. Such is the case with Hermes III who pulled up last time out and is not sure to see out the three miles. Kim Bailey's Cedar Green could be the one to take the beating. It is noticeable that Bailey's horses have been well-backed in recent days so clearly all must be going well at Lambourn. He favours a strong test of stamina and although he has shown form on a good surface, he is much better when there is cut in the ground. John Spearing's Tom Prize may be the one for place prize money. The horse has done little wrong in lesser grade and rarely runs a bad race. Sue Smith has plundered many prizes in the last few months and Gottabe is noted today. He actually beat our selection at Wetherby in the season but there is a slight concern that connections have gone to the well fairly often since. The market is watched as to any confidence in Windross.
