    Verdict

Staked A Claim sets some sort of standard but it isn't the best, however unless newcomer Selkirk Sky is ready to win first time up, the dangers look thin on the ground and so Staked A Claim gets the nod ahead of Red Barnet. David Barron's colt steps up two furlongs in trip today which looks a good idea given the way he has been finishing his races over the minimum trip. He should appreciate today's quicker ground than the bog at Beverley last time out, and having come on for that recent outing he looks the likeliest winner. Gizmo has shown very little so far but better should be expected at some point from Brian Smart's son of Fasliyev, however of more interest may be Mick Easterby's Red Barnet. He should appreciate this slight step up in trip, whilst Selkirk Sky wouldn't need to be a world beater to land this and the market may help guide to the chances of Richard Fahey's 50,000 guineas filly. A weak race, and Staked A Claim is expected to win.
