Verdict

Let It Be, Calcutta Cup and Whispering Death catch the eye in this stayers' finale, and Calcutta Cup is taken to complete a memorable night (if it has been!) for the Middleham handler. Let It Be was a game winner at Redcar last time and looks sure to run his race. However, his previous win was a year ago, and he appears thoroughly exposed and may well be vulnerable to progressive rivals. Whispering Death ran up a sequence of wins last season but had been disappointing this term before showing improved form when the visor was applied last time. He has it again here and is respected. Calcutta Cup receives weight all round here and the Middleham handler's charge can take advantage. He showed real signs of ability after a couple of moderate runs when finishing third to the useful Henry Cecil trained Barodine and he is still learning his trade. He is stepped up markedly in trip and may be able to take full advantage with his trainer in flying form. Calcutta Cup can win at a nice price.
