Verdict

Criterion should prove hard to beat in this maiden; the list of dangers is headed by Sphere and Wells Lyrical. Anything that Sir Michael Stoute sends up here has to be seriously considered, and Criterion lost no caste in defeat on his seasonal reappearance when he chased home By Command at Windsor. He should come on for that run and with the ground in his favour he gets the pick. Sphere showed promise on his debut at Pontefract when he finished third behind Bouguereau. He was slowy away that day and wasn't given a hard race, and it is also worth noting that the winner has since been out and run very well. Wells Lyrical ran respectably when chasing home Jabal Tariq at Ripon last time, but he has yet to race on ground with any cut in it so it remains to be seen how he gets on. Stock Market showed promise on his debut but he was well behind our selection that day and we will stick with Criterion as the one to beat.
