In depth

Verdict

With nearly six-and-a-half thousand pounds to the winner, this contest has attracted a fair field; the selection is Whitbarrow ahead of Count Cougar and Figaro Flyer. Having at one time risen to a mark of 102 in his career, Whitbarrow had dropped to just 69 when romping to victory over course and distance last time. Having looked there as though he had discovered a bit of zest for his racing, connections had little option but to run him again quickly and he can go well. Figaro Flyer was only just touched off from today's mark the last time he ran over course and distance so he could go well. Effective, Owed, Tilly's Dream and Pawan will need career-best efforts if they are to score, Tag Team has regressed of late, while Rosein needs to improve upon recent efforts. Count Cougar's excellent run suffered a rare recent interruption when second from today's mark - a career-high one for him - over course and distance last time but, even so, he is capable of putting up a good show again, while Cool Sands (who also won on Tuesday, beating Owed) is two pounds better off for having beaten Effective a short head at Kempton last time. All of which returns us to the selection, which is Whitbarrow.
