Verdict

A tough finale with three unexposed horses taking on more experienced rivals in a typically competitive classified stakes contest. Of the lightly-raced trio Sir Mark Prescott's Denmark has a long absence to overcome so more solid claims are probably held by course and distance maiden winner Duncan Dock and Hidden Surprise, who won his maiden at Lingfield. However, all three are difficult to evaluate and it may pay to stick with those with more experience. Star of Normandie is well treated on official BHB ratings but has yet to race here, although she has gone well at Wolverhampton. The formerly useful Starbeck showed little on his all-weather debut over course and distance earlier this month and is probably best watched. Mark Polglase's Marengo is a consistent performer and should again be thereabouts, as should Siena Star if he can reproduce Lingfield form on this surface (has disappointed here before). However, the TEAMtalk vote goes to Yenaled. Ian Semple's gelding won well in a similar contest here in October and although beaten twice since they have been at Wolverhampton. The return to Southwell may bring about an improvement in form.
