Verdict

Few of these have done enough to suggest that they can win a race so it's easy enough to whittle the short-list down to VACARIO, Penyfan Dawn, Pelennor and Aconitum. The last named is making his hurdling bow but he showed ability in bumpers and is partnered by Robert Thornton so is worth keeping an eye on. Pelennor showed improved form on his latest start at Market Rasen where he raced keenly; there may be more to come from him as he learns to settle and the jockey booking takes the eye. Penyfan Dawn was beaten around twelve lengths behind Vacario in May and has gone on to run a couple of sound races but she has something to find on the book if she's to bridge the gap. Vacario has only run two bad races in his career but the problem facing supporters is that one of those came on his most recent outing at Bangor where he didn't race with any zest. That does raise serious doubts as he could throw the towel in again but Vacario has the form to win this if he can be cajoled into putting it all in.
