Verdict

Caribbean Dancer is taken to defy top weight in this handicap, with Opera Writer and last time out winner Credential likely to chase him home. Credential had shown only moderate form on turf and over timber, before landing a bit of a gamble when scoring here in a weak auction maiden last time. This looks a more competitive affair, and shouldering a six pound penalty he is passed over. Opera Writer seems to like this track, having won here in July, before finishing second on his two most recent starts. He has looked a little one paced though and may have to settle for second again here. A winner at Beverley and Yarmouth, Caribbean Dancer ran very well after a lay off of over a year to make most of the running in a similar contest to today's before fading in the closing stages. Beaten only six lengths, provided the bounce factor doesnt kick in, he can be expected to have come on for the run, and Mark Johnston's runner may have too much quality for the opposition here. Caribbean Dancer can waltz past his rivals.
