In depth

Verdict

BEAU TROUBADOUR is the selection in this motley batch of platers with Catherines Verse and Springfield Gunner also on the shortlist. It could be that our selection has been a tad unfortunate to come up against Master Wells on his last two starts and with this affair lacking any sort of quality, Donald McCain may just have found the right race to catch the eye of a potential buyer. Catherines Verse has performed creditably at lower levels in Ireland. Her form clearly suggests that the going will not be against her. Springfield Gunner was useful in bumpers though has lost his way badly. A six month absence did not seem to alter anything in that regard. Newgate has finished close up in a couple of sellers and is better off here with a number of rivals than were this a handicap. Can't Remember was a very cheap purchase at the sales. She was well punted at Catterick in a bumper but failed to deliver. Lindsayfield Lodge has a winners penalty to carry and faces a tough task as a consequence. Thunderwing may be flattered by his BHA rating and a drop to plating grade has seemed long overdue. Beau Troubador is the selection.
