In depth

Verdict

Mark Johnston has always done well with his stayers and although TILOS GEM is not in the same class as some of those he has trained he can still prove too good for his opponents here, while Outland and Lastroseofsummer look the dangers. The selection races from the same mark as when runner-up over this trip at Musselburgh last time. He stayed well on his first try at the trip and found just the one too good, so with the experience a positive and tonight's ground another one, we will give him the nod. Outland stays well and has some very solid form, and although he acts on good to firm, he has only won when there has been some cut in the ground. Lastroseofsummer has proven stamina over this far and goes in these conditions, and she looks likely to be a real threat from today's mark. Blazing Desert looks handicapped to the hilt, but Bon Spiel is far from out of this judged on his latest Newmarket run and now dropped 4lbs, though Tilos Gem will take some beating.
