In depth

Verdict

Another truly run race went to Hezaam, who came with wet sail to nail Boule D'Or on the line. The heavily gambled on Winning Delight was a little unlucky in third, having been settled at the rear of the field and met all sorts of trouble as Kieren Fallon tried to weave his magic in bringing the First Trump gelding through with his challenge inside the final furlong. The first three in the frame pulled well clear of the Whitsbury Cross, who found this to be more his level after being outclassed at Royal Ascot last time and he apparently has a little more strengthening up to do before we see the best of him. Malibu and Top Spec were others that caught the eye in running and races can be found for them. Whereas Swainson looked anchored by his 5lb rise in the weights and was always going to be up against it from the top of the handicap today. In contrast to Hezaam, who raced off a mark of 74 this afternoon. The absence of Scarrabus does throw a little doubt as to how much improvement the John Dunlop-trained colt has actually found today. But, assuming that he continues to thrive, he is open to plenty of improvement and obviously appreciated whatever ease there was in the ground here.
