Verdict

Harwoods Volante sets the standard of those to have run with a 6l second to Brown Sugar here on debut over 6f. He was unfancied that day according to the market and it was a creditable start but it would surprise if Richard Hannon doesn't have his measure again. The problem is with which of his three contenders, of which Richard Hughes has chosen the 190,000gns son of Invincible Spirit, GLEBE SPIRIT. It's probably best to go along with his choice but the stable does have a habit of cropping up with second or third strings. After The Goldrush, an 85,000gns son of Kyllachy, therefore requires close attention whilst it would be very disappointing if Jersey Royal could not improve on a dreadful debut when weakening very quickly and coming home last at Newbury. A 160,000gns son of Royal Applause, connections will certainly be hoping so in view of his purchase price.
