In depth

Verdict

Warringah may be 10lbs higher in the handicap but should be backed to follow up his Newbury success. The Galileo colt is a half-brother to the smart Hi Calypso who did well to get the better of Mad Rush in last year's renewal and, with nothing as good as the Cumani runner in this line-up, the family honour can be maintained. The selection went into many a notebook when chasing home Tartan Bearer in April before proving a costly failure at Thirsk where he was tapped for toe. Connections made more use of him on his handicap bow at Newbury and the tactics were rewarded when he ran on strongly to repel all challengers. He will need to take another step forwards to win from his revised mark but there should be plenty more to come from this lightly raced sort who remains a horse to keep on your side. Resplendent Light battled on bravely to win the Tradesman's Derby but is vulnerable to the less exposed runners in the field. It's A Date wasn't suited by the way that the race was run at Leicester and has been dropped a couple of pounds whilst Spell Caster and Seattle Storm have both looked in need of a longer trip and may well improve for it. Any Given Day did just that and routed the field on his first attempt at this trip here last time but that was a weaker race and he, too, is 10lbs higher. He is improving but this is his biggest ask to date and we far prefer the claims of the topweight, Warringah.

Formwatch

Warringah 13-8fav (9-7) Made all, led and set modest pace, ran on strongly from 2f out, in command final furlong, ridden out, won at Newbury 1m 4f 3yo hcp (5) gs beating Inchwood (9-7) by 1 1/2l, 13 ran.

Resplendent Light 16-1 (9-1) Tracked leaders, ridden over 2f out, led inside final furlong, kept on, won at Musselburgh 1m 4f 3yo hcp 0-85 (4) gf beating Sundowner (9-3) by a shd, 13 ran.

It's A Date 6-1 (9-6) Slowly into stride, soon in mid-division, ridden 3f out, no impression, 7th of 14, 8l behind Dona Alba (9-5) at Leicester 1m 2f 3yo hcp (4) gd.

Killcara Boy 4-1 (8-13) Always prominent, carried right entering final furlong, not quicken after, 4th of 7, 1 1/2l behind Inventor (9-2) at Windsor 1m 4f 3yo hcp (4) gf in May.

Seattle Storm (IRE) 10-1 (9-2) Held up last, ridden over 2f out, not trouble leaders over 1f out, kept on inside final furlong but never dangerous, 5th of 8, 3 1/2l behind Steele Tango (9-9) at Sandown 1m 1f 3yo hcp (3) gd.

Any Given Day (IRE) 7-2fav (9-3) Slowly in to stride, shaken up and soon prominent, ridden 4f out, led 3f out, driven clear 1f out, easily, won at Salisbury 1m 4f 3yo hcp (6) gf in May beating King Supreme (9-4) by 5l, 14 ran.

Spell Caster 6-1 (9-5) Towards rear, stayed on steadily from over 1f out, ran on inside final furlong nearest finish, 5th of 13, 2 1/2l behind Casilda (9-4) at Salisbury 1m 2f fll hcp (4) gf.
