Verdict

A poor start to proceedings, with only Music Maid having visited the winner's enclosure this term, and it is Stuart Howe's mare who gets the vote ahead of topweight Shirley Collins and Other Routes. Music Maid has only won over seven furlongs but has shaped of late as though the mile is needed. She has disappointed over the trip in the past but this race is that bad that she must have a major chance of seeing out the distance. Shirley Collins has to give weight away all round but a reproduction of her latest Hamilton effort can see her make a bold bid to lose her maiden tag. Racing over nine furlongs, she hit the front at the distance but was swamped close home, and will be ably assisted in the saddle by Sam Hitchcott. Other Routes likes to hear his hooves rattle and showed signs of a return to form at Goodwood five days ago. He is another with claims but for the winner we return to Music Maid.
