Verdict

Moonshine Creek has been performing consistently well of late and should appreciate the step up in trip but Peter Hiatt's gelding has paid the penalty for that consistency and may be a shade too high in the weights so preference is for Nerys Dutfield's COLONEL FLAY, who gets the verdict ahead of Mount Lavinia. The last mentioned appreciated the step up to this distance when winning at Salisbury in July but was well held when seen subsequently at Newmarket last month and there is a suspicion that she may have been punished too much by the handicapper for that Salisbury success. Marcus Tregoning's Hada Men is less exposed than his rivals after just four starts but needs to improve on what we have seen from his so far. Bella Medici is far from certain to stay this far and a safer option looks to be Colonel Flay. Admittedly, the selection does have a career high mark to defy now but he is only 1lb higher than when scoring at Salisbury over this trip last time and looks worth chancing in a tight heat.
