A predictably strong renewal of the Great St Wilfrid with the top six in the handicap boasting official ratings of 100 or more. Pepper Lane and Our Jonathan fought out the finish last year although both have gone up in the weights since. Johannes and Louis The Pious confirmed themselves in good heart in an old fashioned battle at Goodwood while the lightly raced Alben Star went into many notebooks when running on into fifth in the Stewards' Cup. David Barron may be forgiven for having half an eye on the Nunthorpe next week, but the Maunby handler saddles four in this race and BERTIEWHITTLE appears to have the most obvious profile. Four-year-old's have enjoyed a tremendous record in this contest over the last decade and though he is yet to win a race this season, the combination of a light racing weight and a low draw seems perfect. Barnet Fair bounced off the fast ground at Ascot and could be a factor along with Captain Ramius and Tax Free, who have more experience that most and are likely to be thereabouts.
