In depth

Verdict

Peter Chapple-Hyam looks to have found a nice opportunity for Rayvin Mad to get off the mark, while El Portet can improve and Coleorton Choice can prove best of the newcomers. The selection improved from his Newmarket debut last month to go close at Leicester 10 days later when runner-up in a similar contest. The trainer has a pretty good 20 per cent strike rate here and his colt can put his experience to good use and improve again to take this. Coleorton Choice is an interesting newcomer for Kevin Ryan. The Choisir colt is clearly bred to show plenty of speed and is a half-brother to Coleorton Dancer, who has won his fair share of races over five and six furlongs. Any market support for him would be no surprise. El Portet looked nothing special on a soft ground Pontefract debut but he comes from a yard that usually leaves a bit to work on and so he can improve both for the run and for the likely better ground here. Paul Midgley is sending out some winners of late and Dispol Grand is related to sprint winners at this age, so there is hope that he can put in a good performance. Not a strong maiden then and it can go to Rayvin Mad.
