Verdict

There will be some real stars on show at this year's Festival, though not in this traditional opener, which Enda Bolger has won four times in the past five years. Nina Carberry has been on board two of them and this year's entry, WISH YE DIDNT, will be supported to keep up the tradition. Still only six, she's been a bit disappointing in maiden hunters' events but is likely to have been tuned up for this and the opposition is neglible. The old-timer Boxer Georg is a light of former days and has been in poor form but Blackwood Rover was an easy winner at Belclare last month and probably should have followed up a couple of weeks later. Katie's Oscar has had 30 starts between the flags and won once but Treo Eile completed a double on quick ground a year ago and will be better suited by the conditions than most. Oscar Day, a winner at Tyrella in January, looks best of Peter Maher's trio though that isn't saying much.
