In depth

Verdict

Patthepainter showed improved form when stepped up to this distance for the first time at Beverley recently but a 5lb rise for that success leaves Karl Burke's gelding with more to do and a better bet looks to be Mista Rossa, who gets the vote with Golden Bishop rated the pick of the remainder. The selection has shown improved form since being stepped up in trip, latterly when a close third over this trip at Leicester last month and Hugh Morrison's gelding looks worth chancing off the same mark today. Sheer Fantastic ran creditably at Hamilton last time but looks booked for a place at best, while Cape Colony is hard to back with confidence having disappointed in his last two starts. Mark Johnston's Boy Racer could be of interest on his handicap debut but more solid claims are held by Michael Bell's Golden Bishop, who ran well on his first start in a handicap when chasing home World Time at Yarmouth recently. A 5lb rise since then looks harsh though and a better bet looks to be Mista Rossa.
