In depth

Verdict

This may concern those at the top of the handicap, with preference for Frank Crow over She's Our Lass, Bay Boy and Top Jaro. Frank Crow looked like one to follow when landing a maiden for Ian Semple in 2005, but has not shone at all since joining his current stable. Not until a fortnight ago that is, when the gelding encountered fast ground for the first time at Musselburgh as he chased home Emeral Bay, with the 85-rated Bailieborough behind in third. That was his first outing in six months, so there should be more improvement in him, and Jim Goldie's charge has leading claims. The stewards were not impressed with the way that She's Our Lass was allowed to make eye-catching late headway from off the pace at Wolverhampton on her last start, and she will be expected to go well here, although Darryll Holland now rides the selection instead, with her regular pilot Daniel Tudhope taking over on the mare. Bay Boy faded out of sight in first-time blinkers at Wolverhampton but has one or two placed efforts to his name, while a mile appears to be Top Jaro's best trip. Of those further down the weights, Tim Pitt's runner Jordan's Light makes some appeal on the back of some good efforts last term, but Frank Crow may have more to offer and is the pick.
