Verdict

POLAR FOREST was only beaten half-a-length at Nottingham on Saturday having also finished second at Thirsk on his previous start. Providing his weekend exertions don't take their toll, Richard Guest's gelding could open his account in this as he gets 7lb from the in-form The Scuttler and 10lb from War Lord. The latter has struggled off a higher mark since scoring at Thirsk in May. Kolonel Kirkup is beginning to drop down the handicap, however, and back over a more suitable trip after his sixth at Newcastle.
