Verdict

MAGPIE is a very hopeful selection to win this in receipt of weight from the majority of his main rivals; Bathwick Man who takes a marked drop in grade looks the chief threat along with Harlequinn Dancer. Four runs in just over four weeks has not revealed much where Magpie is concerned but there was definite promise last week at Wincanton where he looked for a moment as if he would be involved at the business end before his challenge petered out late on. Although the front two in that race drew clear of the remainder, he was by no means disgraced and his final finishing position is not reflective of his overall performance there. On a direct line through Tuanku, Harlequinn Dancer has the beating of Magpie. He was moderate on the flat and it is not likely that hurdling will be much different. Bathwick Man has been carrying a penalty in decent juvenile hurdles of late and this drop in grade makes him one of the main contenders. Crimsonwing stayed on from the rear to take third spot on her hurdling debut. She should benefit for the experience but Magpie is taken to land this weak looking claiming hurdle.
